We have taken a collaborative approach to the development of The Boating Bible Manual of Seamanship and the website to promote it. For both of us, words have never been a problem but our skills in video editing, animation, website design and internet marketing have improved immensely as the project unfolded. There is always something new to learn.
Jim has been sailing for more than 60 years - competed in 14 Sydney-Hobart races, one Fastnet race and many other ocean races. He has crossed the notorious Bass Strait more than 40 times. He has also delivered scores of yachts. He has sailed in every ocean except the north Pacific.
Although his career was in mainstream journalism - both as writer and as senior newspaper executive - he never lost sight of sailing, which he began at school in England. Outside his main job he was for five years yachting correspondent for Australia's largest circulation daily newspaper, he wrote three yachting books, including The Boating Bible: An Essential Handbook for Every Sailor* - 70,000 copies sold worldwide - and the history of Australia's premier yacht club, the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron.
After his 'retirement' he wrote a monthly column for Australian Yachting, became a Yachtmaster Offshore instructor and taught students with the Flying Fish Sailing School. He has also turned his best-seller into an up-to-date, modern interactive product - The Boating Bible Manual of Seamanship - including exciting video, animations and graphics. Sixty years of sailing experience - racing and cruising - are brought to you in this Manual on six CDs, plus a bonus DVD.
*Published in UK as The Handbook of Sailing: Essential for Every Sailor and in Spain as La Biblia de la Navegación Deportiva.
Ann's sailing experience began at about the age of ten in
a Mirror dinghy on a privately owned dam in country NSW.
She did not, however, get seriously into sailing until the
early 1980s when she discovered how enjoyable it was spending Wednesday afternoons racing on Sydney Harbour
in a Cavalier 26.
Ann spent 21 years with Worklife where she developed a wide range of administrative and customer service skills as well as caring for the publication - editing, designing and overseeing the printing process - of all the books Paul Stevens wrote during that time. She participated in the two-week What Color Is Your Parachute? workshop in 1995. She has a sound knowledge of career development and helped Paul launch The College for Career Practitioners in 1999.
After meeting Jim in 1986, Ann began sailing on larger yachts and has competed in three Sydney-Hobart races, the 1988 Tall Ships Race (Hobart-Sydney), numerous coastal races, a delivery from Perth to Sydney that ended in Esperance and several returns from Hobart and one from Lord Howe Island.
Over the years she has enjoyed cruising in the Whitsundays, the Greek Islands and Caribbean. Jim and Ann filmed their most recent voyage - Wilderness Adventure - for the 75 minute DVD you will receive as a bonus when you purchase the complete Boating Bible Manual of Seamanship.
